Forensic Psychologists - Newcastle
A firm of forensic psychologists consisting of two full time psychologists, 1 full time office manager/ PA, one part time financial manager and one part time office junior approached OutSec with a view to outsourcing their typing requirements. The company also employs three other psychologists on a consultation basis, generating a lot of dictation requiring transcription.
The company provides forensic psychology in risk assessments in family and criminal proceedings for the courts and write recommendations for the coroners courts in specialist cases. It is a firm of expert witnesses affiliated to but not of the legal profession.
The firm has always had problems recruiting and retaining typing staff with the high degree of knowledge and understanding required to produce accurate reports. OutSec offered an possible alternative solution.
The firm was getting much busier but didn't want to hire a new member of staff. The directors also wanted to release time for staff to undertake financial and PA duties rather than the typing of sound files.
Confidentiality was a major concern given the nature of the work and another was the nature of the content itself especially given the very disturbing nature of some of the reports. However, OutSec addressed these and other issues and a trial commenced.
The flexibility of OutSec and ease of use of FileManager was the deciding factor. As one of the directors put it: "The ability to dictate reports on the move and then upload the soundfiles wherever I have an internet connection, usually a hotel room in Cardiff but once from the top of a mountain in Wales! was a major reason for using OutSec."
99% of all dictation is now sent to OutSec for typing. The service has made it unnecessary to hire an extra member of staff and this has saved the firm about £10,000 per year.
