OutSec Achieves Cyber Essentials Certification
OutSec the UK’s leading online transcription company is proud to announce they have achieved Cyber Essentials certification (a certification scheme which deals with data security and cyber security).
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK government information assurance scheme, operated by the National Cyber Security Centre (a part of GCHQ). It therefore encourages organisations to adopt good IT practices in relation to cyber security and data security.
Cyber Essentials is an assurance framework which contains a set of security controls, to therefore protect data from risks and threats coming from the internet. Furthermore, the standard was developed in collaboration with the UK Government and industry partners, such as:
- The Information Security Forum;
- The Information Assurance for Small and Medium Enterprises Consortium; and
- The British Standards Institution.
OutSec attained their Cyber Essentials certificate on 14 May 2019.
OutSec were assessed by Paul Sullivan.
The certificating body was KNOX Cyber Security.
The accreditation body was APMG International.
Our Cyber Essential Certificate Number is 9195574. It can be viewed digitally here.
What Does It Mean For Me?
Cyber Essentials is a standard which deals with cyber security. Obtaining Cyber Essentials therefore ensures that OutSec have been audited in relation to cyber security and its associated data risks.
This therefore gives OutSec customers assurance that we take cyber security and data security very seriously.
The National Cyber Security Centre, (a part of GCHQ), oversees the standard, which gives additional credence to this UK standard.
Additionally, Cyber Essentials is therefore a specified requirement for all UK Government contracts, that involve handling sensitive or personal data.
The standard therefore is a comprehensive look at all aspects of IT, such as:
- Are our firewalls secure and fit for purpose?
- Are our security settings the right ones?
- Who can access what data?
- Is our malware and virus protection adequate?
- What arrangements are there for keeping devices/software up to date?
An external auditor examines the assessment and decides whether to award the Cyber Essentials mark. Assessment occurs annually.
In addition, OutSec is also ISO 27001 certified. This is an international security standard which deals with confidentiality and data security and aligns to the GDPR.
If information security is important to you, do not just cross your fingers when outsourcing transcription.
Therefore, if you are agreeing a contract which deals with sensitive data, demand ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials compliance. They are more than logos!
These information security standards set the bar high. It takes constant review, challenge and action to receive and retain them. They also provide assurances that OutSec are indeed GDPR compliant.
Another Achievement for OutSec
Vanessa French, Managing Director on achieving certification said:
“Cyber security, as we are all well aware, is of paramount importance in today’s tech-centric world. Cyber attacks are an evolving danger to businesses, employees and consumers. Therefore OutSec deemed it appropriate to be externally audited in order to ensure that we comply with UK domestic and international standards. Cyber Essentials is a UK Government, industry-backed scheme. We are proud to say we achieved immediate certification, as we had everything in place upon examination. We are happy that we have achieved this accreditation in addition to ISO 27001, which we received earlier this year.”.
